Chronic Disease Day: A Shared Mission for a Healthier Future

Every 10th of July, Chronic Disease Day reminds us of the millions of people living each day with the realities of long-term health conditions. From autoimmune diseases to allergies to inflammatory disorders, the challenges may vary but the need for improved treatments, earlier diagnosis and a deeper understanding of these diseases is universal. At 3TR, we see this day as more than a commemoration – it is a call to action that echoes the heart of our mission.

One Project. Seven Diseases. One Goal.

What makes 3TR unique is not just its scale – studying seven chronic immune-mediated diseases (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis) – but the vision to study them together. Instead of approaching each disease in isolation, 3TR unites over 60 partners across Europe in one collaborative effort. Through shared data, integrative analysis and systems biology, we are breaking down the silos that often separate disease research and uncovering the biological and molecular mechanisms that many of these conditions share.

By comparing patients who respond to treatment with those who do not, and tracking molecular changes over time, we aim to redefine how chronic immune-mediated diseases are understood and treated – not by symptoms, but by their shared biology.

Uniting for Better Patient Outcomes

In discussing the significance and importance of 3TR, Marta Alarcón-Riquelme, Project Coordinator and Scientific Director of the GENYO Centre at the Fundación Pública Andaluza Progreso y Salud, stated: “On Chronic Disease Day, we reaffirm our belief that breakthroughs happen not only within disciplines, but between them. 3TR stands for unity – across diseases, across data and across Europe. It is only by working together that we can bring meaningful change to the lives of patients living with chronic conditions.”

As we mark this important day, we celebrate the courage of patients, the dedication of clinicians and the innovation of scientists working across borders and disease areas.Together, through collaboration, compassion and cutting-edge science, we are paving the way toward the right drug, the right patient, the right time and a future where chronic diseases no longer define daily life.
